A song of Aluminum and Rope

Hey guys,

Sorry this took me awhile to post! It’s been a crazy couple of months.  We installed a new set at the end of February that we have really been enjoying! It was pretty simple to build and very affordable.

Materials

10'x8" Aluminum studs (you could use MUCH small depending on your space)

1'x8’ & 2'x8’ Stained Luan

1" Nylon Rope

First we assembled 10'x10’ bare aluminum stud walls on 2’ centers with self tapping aluminum screws (don’t forget when ordering from a supplier they make aluminum studs to order so you can get exactly what you need! Cutting this stuff is hard on your saw blades.  If you have to cut get a grinding blade it will last MUCH longer)

We then assembled 8 of these 10x10 sections into 2 10'x40’ walls one as far back as possible ground supported, the other mid stage and floating.  We attached it to a 40’ stick of truss with lighting safties.   We made shorter walls for under our screens.

Then we stained Luan (8'x4’ sheets cut down) Luan should be right around $8-10 a sheet.  Using the same self tapping screws we attached the Luan to the studs in an alternating pattern

In front of all that we stretched rope from a hanging truss to eye hooks mounted to the floor in a pattern inspired by the “skyway bridge” in Tampa Fl.

Light it all up and you get a clean and industrial look with a little bit of class. The key with this design is the negative space, you may choose to do more or less wood depending on your space.

Hope this and the attached photos help! Keep creating!
